Skemxist [Skem-heest], derived from the Nsyilxcən language, means “Black Bear” – the Chief of all 4-Legged Animals. Chief Skemxist embodies the traditions and cultural practices deeply rooted in the Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB). The name reflects the concept, reflection, and contemplation of ‘what is,’ guided by an understanding of the past and a profound connection to the future.

We are guided by the wisdom of our ancestors, we are the driving force behind sustainable progress in road building, road maintenance, drilling, blasting, civil construction, forestry, marine, aggregate, project consulting and transportation services throughout South Central British Columbia.
